Measures to prevent red water and leaks in the water supply piping of the Legend Hotel Saigon.
Case study on the introduction of NMR pipe protectors for preventing red rust and extending the lifespan of hotel water supply piping.
The Legend Hotel Saigon is a building that is 7 years old and used galvanized steel pipes (SGP) for its water supply piping. Due to the high sulfur content in the water supplied from Ho Chi Minh City, red rust corrosion in the hotel's water supply pipes progressed very quickly, resulting in red water coming from the faucets in guest rooms within 6 to 7 years after completion. There were also concerns about potential future leaks. To address the red water issue caused by red rust in the water supply pipes, a plan for pipe replacement was considered; however, it was costly and required a water outage, which would necessitate halting hotel operations. As a solution, the "NMR Pipe Protector," a device for rust prevention and extending the life of pipes that does not require a water outage, was installed by a major Japanese general contractor. Before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, very dark red water due to red rust was coming from the faucets, but 1.5 months after its installation, the water became almost clear, resolving complaints from the hotel. The NMR Pipe Protector has been proven to stop the progression of new red rust and convert the existing red rust in the pipes into inert black rust that does not dissolve in water.
